TCAP Scores
As we move forward through this semester, we would like to remind you of a Tennessee state law and Knox County School policy.   Under current state law, students’ scores on the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) shall count from 15 to 25 percent of the student’s final report card grade during the spring semester in the subject areas of math, reading/language arts, science and social studies.
In order to comply with the state law, Knox County Schools policy** now requires that the student’s TCAP scores count as fifteen (15%) percent of the student’s second semester grade. This will affect students in grades three through eight.
Grades will now be cumulative spanning an entire semester.   The second semester grade will be a cumulative average plus the fifteen (15%) TCAP score.   The one overall yearly grade for the areas of math, reading/language arts, science and social studies will be determined by calculating the average of the first and second semester grades.
We wanted to bring this to your attention in an effort to communicate the importance of students doing their best on the TCAP test this spring.   While our teachers are working very diligently to prepare students for the rigor of these exams, we are asking that you do the following:
·         Monitor your student’s performance on a weekly basis
·         Seek assistance from the school if your student is struggling
·         Stress the importance of your student making the most of instructional time
The TCAP test is scheduled to be administered between April 23 and April 30, 2013.   If you have questions regarding this change in state law and/or the Board of Education policy, please feel free to contact us.   We thank you for your support as we strive to provide “Excellence for All Children.”
With Pack Pride!
